Wizard of Oz Symbolism

Quote from Mayer Amschel Rothschild "Give me control of a nation's money
and I care not who makes the laws."

"Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It"

L Frank Baum

Wrote the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900 using much symbolism.

A brief history lesson:

From 1866 to 1886 the money supply was reduced from $50.46 to $6.67 per capita. This resulted in a 760% loss of buying power in 20 years.

During this time in 1872 the Bank of England funded Ernerst Seyd with 100,000 lbs and sent him to America to bribe congressman to de-monetize silver. The rues worked and the next year Congress passed the Coinage Act Of 1873. This act prevented Americans from bringing their silver to the mint to be made into coins and stopped the minting of silver causing a liquidity crisis because now only gold coins were money.

By 1876 1/3 of the Country was unemployed and wanted to return to debt free money like Lincoln’s greenbacks or to silver.

1877 saw massive riots which ushered in James Garfield as President who slammed the corrupt bankers. He stated “Whosoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce.” Within a few weeks of this statement he was assassinated on July 2nd 1881.

The Bankers gained more power creating Booms and Busts (now called business cycles), they bought up thousands of homes and farms for pennies on the dollar.

The only issue in the 1896 Presidential race was MORE SILVER MONEY.

Williams Jennings Bryan ran on the free silver platform. A quote from his famous speech.

“We will answer their demand for a gold standard by saying to them: You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns, You shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold.”

Bryan lost the race to McKinley and lost again in 1900 and 1908.

Now she must kill witch of the west the witch summons the flying monkeys through the use of her golden cap another symbol of the gold standard.

Dorothy kills the witch by throwing a bucket of water on her representative the additional liquidity that silver would add to the economy breaking the stranglehold of the bankers gold money system.

Dorothy seeks out the good witch of the north and is told you have the power all the time by clicking her silver heels 3 times. Like America solving its monetary problems simply by expanding the money supply. Back in Kansas with no silver slippers just as the silver issue was vanishing in the late 1890’s.The silver cause would be a distant memory with the passage of the gold standard act in 1900
